Signs that the Nerd is strong in this country

  • The Elephant Café in Edinburgh. It’s probably the only place in the world where the owners are content to let years of graffiti on the bathroom wall go unchecked.
  • The Time Warp in Stratford. Doctor Who, let’s do the Time Warp again.
  • Magic Alley in Stratford. Find all your multi-fandom needs. Even the Twilight ones, apparently.
  • Stratford-upon-Avon. Seriously, a town so devoted to one person’s works? No other fandom goes to those lengths. Though I hear the Twihards might try…
  • Alice’s Shop in Oxford. While normally a popular yet quiet fandom, the store lures people with sweets into a ye-olde-timey souvenir shop.
  • Oxford in general and the tourist trap chances for Tolkien, Lewis, and Rowling nerds.
  • “May the Fourth be with you.” And also with you, yesterday’s café in the East End. And also with you.
  • King’s Cross Station. I haven’t been there yet, but, I’ve got to say, building a huge, functioning station in honor of the Harry Potter series probably tops the whole Wizarding World in Florida thing. Well played, London, well played.
  • Baker Street. Apparenly Sherlock? I don’t get it. See also Abbey Road.
  • Do Jack the Ripper tours count? They totally count.
  • The fact that there are statues to everything everywhere, like knickknacks on my aunt’s mantle, which means even fictional characters get them.

Seriously, London in iconic in so much media, pretty much anyone could find something to geek out over.  We really haven’t been able to explore them all, but don’t worry, I’ve got a bucket list. Or rather a before-I-leave-London list. Same difference.
